NEURODIVERGENCE
Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy
Strengths-based care for ADHD, autism, learning differences, sensory processing and more.
In-person in Wheaton, IL • Telehealth across Illinois
You don’t need to “mask” here
At Evergreen Counseling, we recognize that brains are beautifully varied. Whether you identify as autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, gifted/2e, or otherwise neurodivergent, you deserve care that honors how your brain actually works—not how someone says it should work.
Who We Support
Kids & teens navigating school, friendships, and big emotions
College students & adults juggling executive function, burnout, and life transitions
Parents & caregivers seeking concrete strategies and compassionate guidance
Couples & families learning to communicate across different processing styles
Our Approach
(what “affirming” really means)
Strengths-based. We build from what’s already working and expand it.
Collaborative goals. We’ll define success together—no one-size-fits-all plan.
Accessible tools. We favor simple, low-friction practices you can actually use.
Environment matters. We consider sensory needs, routines, and systems—not just “willpower.”
Family-system aware. We support caregivers and partners alongside the individual.
Trauma- and shame-sensitive. We move at your pace and center safety.
Common Reasons People Reach Out
Overwhelm, burnout, and shame from years of “try harder” messages
Executive function challenges (focus, planning, starting/finishing tasks)
Sensory needs and emotional dysregulation
Social fatigue, rejection sensitivity, and masking exhaustion
School or workplace stress, accommodations, and advocacy
Identity exploration after a new diagnosis or late discovery
Shame related to feeling "not normal" or "not functional"
What Sessions Can Include
Executive function supports (task initiation, planning, time blindness scaffolds)

Values-based behavior change (what matters → small steps → sustainable habits)
Communication skills for home, school, and work (scripts, templates, role-plays)
Self-advocacy and accommodations (IEPs/504s, workplace requests, documentation tips)
Identity-affirming exploration (unmasking, boundaries, community connection)
Support Tailored by Life Stage
-

Kids & Pre-Teens
Play-based and skills-focused sessions help kids name feelings, practice coping tools, and build confidence. We partner closely with caregivers and—when helpful—coordinate with teachers.
-

Teens
We blend practical executive-function coaching with space to process identity, friendships, and stress. We often focus on motivation, routines that actually stick, and healthy tech use.
-

College Students & Adults
We work on realistic scaffolds for work/school, relationships, and daily living—calendar systems that fit your brain, task-breakdown that reduces avoidance, and burnout recovery.
-

Parents & Caregivers
You’ll leave with scripts, visuals, and step-by-step plans. We emphasize co-regulation, collaborative problem-solving, and compassionate structure (firm and kind).
